Who is Randall Benson - Your Geek Guy
It all began a long time ago...Well of course it always does, but I'm going to go into how I got on this Earth. I wanted to let you know how I got here. How I got to where I am right now. For the ones that don't know me personally this is to tell you a little bit about me, Randall Benson.
The journey began at the beginning of 1999. I had moved to Carl Junction, MO after going to school in Diamond, MO for way too long. I was looking forward to the new opportunity that High School and brand new friends had to offer.
My passion for music drove me to a certain crowd, "The Band Geeks." The greatest part of this is when I met Bill Kramme. Bill Kramme, was the start of Ethereal Productions in all truth. The word Ethereal was dubbed as the name of our Christian Rock band we were playing in (and yes there are tracks on the internet, if I feel like getting embarrassed I might add the links in a comment later).
The way the name got added to what is now Ethereal Productions was from a recording studio we had begun. Originally it was called "Ghetto-Fi Studios." After deciding that wasn't very professional we took the name Ethereal (which means spiritual; not of this world) and made it the company name. So now we are Ethereal Productions, producing things that are not of this world.
The reason I talk about all this is not to give the history of Ethereal Productions, but to give you why I'm doing what I'm doing. I have a passion for creating multimedia. It began with music. I got to see bands like Chicago and The Beach Boys in concert, open for major artist like Disciple, and run sound for artists like Day of Fire, Overflow, The Benjamin Gate, and many others.
Shortly into Ethereal Productions I started going to a new church where things were just taking off. They asked me (being the local geek) if I could build a website. I looked them in the eye and said "Brother, I have absolutely no clue." The next week I sat down and built a website. I wanted to learn how. After I did the first one I got addicted to learning new things in design.
This also naturally grew me into a graphic designer. I was so sick of drab looking websites that were just boring and had no real content. I made it my endeavor to create quality websites for the people who wanted to take the next step. Now there is Web 2.0 and I love the new stuff people are coming out with.
I later went to college and learned more about music and technology, but continued my endeavor with Ethereal Productions.
Then in the last few months I was introduced to the most amazing content management system (CMS) that absolutely changed the way I think. I always built sites page by page and all by hand. I even picked up a little PHP and MySQL to do my own custom CMS but never got anywhere with that. Now I was told there was something that did it all for me. WHAT?!?!?
Drupal was that something.
So, what did I do? I learned it, and started using it. Now you are reading this content more than likely on a Drupal based website.
It is amazing how far technology has come even since I was in High School a few short years ago. It's amazing where it is going. I am very passionate about it, and I will be continuing to add posts that will give everyone resources to use technology to help them. Some see me as a technology evangelist because i'm always trying to help them use technology to save them. Mostly it saves them time and money, but sometimes it saves them their future.
I hope that everyone will continue to visit this site regularly to see the posts I make as well as the additions we make here at EtherealProductions.com. Know that there will be resources added on a regular occasion that will benefit you.
This is who I am. Whether you like it or not, I'm going to be giving away FREE stuff. That means you should come back to this site anyway.
Stay tuned...
